Treadmills for tall runners

Written by Jamie Miller, Founder & EditorLast checked

Deck length, not any other specification, is what decides whether a treadmill suits a tall runner. A deck too short forces a shortened stride to avoid the motor cover, which changes your running form and is uncomfortable at any real pace. As a rough guide, most people over 6'2" (188cm) want a running belt of at least 150cm; taller still, look for 152cm or more. Not established, checked 18 Sept 2026

Why this gets overlooked

Treadmills are marketed on motor power and features far more than on deck length, so it takes deliberate checking to find. The overall machine length in a product's headline dimensions is not the running belt length — always check the belt or "running area" length specifically, not the assembled footprint.
