How to tell which unit your treadmill uses
Look at the display next to the speed number. Where a unit label is printed, that settles it. If there is none, check the manual.
Failing that, a rule of thumb, and it is ours rather than any manual's. A console topping out around 16 to 20 is almost certainly in km/h, because 20 mph is far beyond what a treadmill offers; one topping out around 10 to 12 is more likely mph. No source states this; it follows from the speeds machines are built to reach.

If your treadmill shows km/h

If your treadmill shows mph
10 mph is 16.1 km/h, a pace of 6:00 per mile and 3:44 per kilometre. Held for a 5k that is 18:38. For comparison, a console showing 10 in km/h is 9:39 a mile, a difference of 3:39 a mile.
